International Education Week 2009
| International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint effort of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of their efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. International Education Week (IEW) is celebrated all across the United States annually during the third week of November and is an opportunity for the University of Houston to showcase international initiatives across the campus. |

| Monday, November 16 |
|
11:30 am CEO in collaboration with the Office of International Studies & Programs (OISP), International Student & Scholar Services Offices (ISSSO), Language and Culture Center (LCC), and Student Government Association (SGA) here on campus present the official start of International Education Week (IEW). IEW is celebrated all across the United States annually during the third week of November and is an opportunity for the University to showcase international initiatives across the campus. We will offer a variety of cultural programs, music, dance and food. |
| Tuesday, November 17 |

10 am to 11:30 am Program led by Parul Fernandes, Director of International Studies will promote Study abroad Programs showcasing study abroad programs with a difference and with faculty exhibiting the uniqueness of their programs. This event is to promote Study Abroad programs to domestic students and make them aware of how study abroad can assist them in their future careers. |

11:30 am to 1:30 pm Program led by Parul Fernandes, Director of International Studies and Programs to promote 1st Annual Citizenship Awareness and the many faces of Houston. Faculty, staff and students are invited to bring their lunches and will be given the opportunity to talk about their experiences of becoming a citizen of America and how they value this citizenship. Humor is important in relating cultural differences. |

3:00 pm to 4:30 pm This forum led by Anita Gaines, Director of the International Student and Scholar Services Office will host a panel to discuss scholarship opportunities and other valuable information. This is a great opportunity for students to be more involved internationally to be a leading edge for the outside academic arena. |

5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Invitation to New International Students: learn about US holidays & customs and meet new friends from your home country and around the world. Games, prizes and free food included! |
| Wednesday, November 18 |
|
11:30 am to 1:30 pm In celebration of the diverse cultures here on campus, CEO, ISSSO, OISP, LCC and SGA will be setting up 25 booths for the various cultural student organizations to come out and providing food for the public. There will be food represented from around the world ranging from appetizers, meals and desserts served at each organizations discretion. The United States Postal Service will be on-site accepting Passport Applications and taking Passport Photos. Study Abroad will be on site for students. There will also be outside vendors and performers from various cultures here on campus. |
| Thursday, November 19 |

Community Outreach to Local Schools 8:00 am Event led By Dale Hamilton, ISSSO and Parul Fernandes, Director , OISP Students and staff at the University of Houston who have studied abroad or from abroad will visit middle school students in Grades 6 & 7 in their French class and talk about the importance of learning a new language, travelling and studying abroad and using it to find international careers.
